FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why the consecutive translation is used at seminars and how does it differ from simultaneous translation?

Our lecturers generally insist on consecutive translation, because it is the best
way to attune live with the translators and participants – to monitor whether the
participants understand the content of the material well, to monitor the
participants and their reactions and potentially include them in the discussion.
Consecutive translation is a type of translation where the lecturer says a few
sentences, takes a break, the translator translates and then the lecturer
continues with the next few sentences.
Therefore, translation is done in segments and the lecturer and the translator
are a team that works together. Consecutive translation is mostly done by
people who know professional terminology, in this case, they are people from
the field of psychotherapy.
Experience has shown that non-professional consecutive translation is better
than simultaneous translation, because simultaneous translation is usually done
by professional translators who are not professionals and do not translate

professional terms well, nor do they understand the content they are translating
well enough, so the listeners who only hear the translator in headphones (or in
the case of an online event on another channel) actually often get a wrong
translation, or at least an insufficiently good translation.
In addition, we also know from experience that translators who are not from the
mental health profession are shaken by the content they translate and often
cannot concentrate well (or at all) on the translation.

Is it possible to hold seminars without translation?

Our experience has shown that most of our listeners, even if they speak English,
benefit from translation – they hear the same content twice, they hear the
information correctly, if necessary, ambiguities are clarified, and in
communication with the lecturer it has also been shown that it is more efficient to
use translators. because it saves time.

Does NATAS organize TA education?

In the future, we plan to organize complete basic and advanced level education
in TA, but for now that possibility does not exist. Regarding supervision, you can
contact us at natasrbije@gmail.com

Is NATAS a member of any international or domestic TA association?

Some NATAS members are also individual members of
https://www.itaaworld.org/ and https://savezpsihoterapeuta.org/

Can I become a NATAS member?

Yes, after submitting the application form and thoroughly familiarizing the
existing members with the candidate for membership, the NATAS Assembly
makes a decision on the admission of new members. In practice, this means
that we get to know potential candidates through our seminars, workshops and
mandatory supervisions before making a decision on admission to membership.

I paid for the seminar, but I cannot attend. Is it possible to get a recording of the whole workshop or the missed part?

Of course. For all participants who have made the payment and are unable to
attend the seminar, we provide a recording of the entire seminar, or the missed
part of the seminar.
